Vacation Bible School 2017
Nailed It-A Reformation VBS
In honor of the 500th Anniversary of the start of the Lutheran Reformation, New Life will host a Reformation VBS entitled "Nailed It" on August 7-11, 2017. On October 31, 1517, Martin Luther started the Protestant Reformation by nailing his 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany. This act began the process of "nailing down," the chief truths of the Christian faith from the Bible. The result was several "solas" (a Latin word meaning "alone"). In these solas the Lutheran Church nails the truths of salvation on the head. The schedule for the week will lay out as follows:
- Day 1, Sola Gratia-Grace Alone
- Day 2, Sola Scriptura-Scripture Alone
- Day 3, Sola Fide-Faith Alone
- Day 4, Solus Christus-Christ Alone
- Day 5, Soli Deo Gloria-For God's Glory Alone
Yes, Reformation history and the life and work of Martin Luther will be covered. However, this will still be VBS, Vacation BIBLE School, a week when we the kids will be able to study five stories which relate to each "sola."
New Life Lutheran Church invites children preschool through eighth grade to participate the mornings of Monday, August 7 through Friday, August 11 from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM. The program is free and will be held on the church grounds.
On the last day of VBS, a picnic lunch will be served as a wrap-up for our week.
There is no cost or obligation. Freewill gifts can be given to defray the cost of materials. If you have any questions you can call the church at 847-438-5018.
Bring your kids to learn a story from the Bible, sing some songs, make projects to take home, play games, enjoy snacks and close out the morning with a reminder of what they've learned. Register your children today!
Sand Volleyball Camp
In addition to VBS, New Life will also offer a sand volleyball camp for kids third through eighth grade the week of VBS of VBS (August 7-11). The volleyball camp will run from 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM and will be held on New Life's church property.
The cost for the camp is $45, which includes a t-shirt. This fee may be paid on the first day of camp. At camp the kids will learn the fundamental skills needed to play volleyball, the rules of the game and most of all, how to have fun playing volleyball.
Volleyball camp will be open only for kids who attend VBS. Those attending camp simply bring a lunch to VBS. To attend the sand volleyball camp as well as VBS, check the appropriate box on the form.
You may sign up electronically using the following form, or print it off and mail it to Pastor Bauer (or hand it to him in church). Walk-in registrations will be taken on the first day of VBS, August 3rd, at 8:45 AM. However, we greatly prefer that you register your child/children in advance!
